Gudiya came from Uttar Pradesh with three children and a home marked by violence - from her in-laws, and later, without her husband's support, from him too. When her mother tried to intervene, She was chased away at knifepoint. Gudiya drew a line then: insults toward her, she could bear; toward her mother, never.
She left and moved to Mumbai, where she began working with Creative Handicrafts - the first woman in her entire extended family to ever hold a job. Now a skilled tailor, she's become someone the younger women in her family look up to.
